Maintenance of any sort is completely or almost alien to us in this part of the world. By this, Nigerians in spheres of lives are inclined to obtaining eye catchy monuments as a means of "I have Arrived" publicity with glamorous and flashy atmosphere created around them.
However, what we lack is the competence and logical rationality to design and prepare for a life cycles of our structures.
The result is that more than 50 thousand public monuments are dangerously at the risk of collapse all over the country. We have come to a cross road and arrived at a destination of paradigm shift.
Planned Preventive Maintenance is the solution and should be integrated at the point of design.
